It is important to know the stories behind common and popular motifs used in Christian art - specifically because styles and approaches on these story are very important to art history. Below I have outlined a list of important motifs you should familiarize yourself with to make important artistic connections between works throughout art history and between specific works in your image set.

* The Adoration of the Magi
* The Annunciation
* The Crucifixion and Resurrection
* The Last Supper
* The Apostles -- familiarize yourself with who the important characters are (Judas, John, Peter & Matthew)
* The Virgin Mary vs. Mary Magdalen
* John the Baptist vs. John the Apostle
* The Betrayal of Judas
