Non-Western Research Project

APAH Midterm Project

Objective: In pairs you will work to create a 15-minute mini-lesson based on your assigned culture.

Goals:

·      To work with the other person also working on a chapter representing your culture. (ex. If you’ve got late Japan, you’ll work with the student doing early Japan)

·      Your lesson must use the following technologies:
           * Powerpoint Presentation
           * Handouts (total of 11)
           * A quiz on your lesson (must include both multiple choice and
                developed short answer questions) that you’ll give for everyone to
                take at home & an answer key for Mrs. V

Development of your PowerPoint:

- you must include a complete background on culture, religion and historical information.

- you must include at least 6 works which must include architecture, 2-D work and 3-D work. You must provide contextual analysis of each work in your slides.

- you must also include a minimum of at least 1 work from the European tradition to compare and contrast with one of the works from your non-western culture.

Format:

Your presentation must include:

1. 1 title slide with your culture, time period, and group members names

2. 4-5 background information slides (historical, cultural and religious)
3. 3-4 slides for each artwork explaining various details and significance
            *use large, clear images of each work
            *include a full and complete identification (title, artist, year, location)
            *include patron and function of the work (who paid for it and what is it for?)
            *major innovations or achievements
            *visual description and/or aesthetic considerations
            *comparison to western work

4. vocabulary slides at the end that clarify specific terms relating to the culture or art you’ve presented

5. bibliography slides
