more bad news...

Hi everyone,

So I've broken my foot in two different places and won't be in next week (maybe longer if I need to go in for surgery - YUCK)... I'm feeling quite frustrated and down because the next two chapters are MY FAVORITE... and I really wanted to be there with you all. Anyway, I'll be posting what I want you to do next week online over the weekend when I figure out what I need you to get done. For now, hold tight and get your 15th century Italy test (on quizstar) done okay?!?!

Hi everyone,

I'd like to start Chapter 20 (sixteenth century art in Italy) on Tuesday (Monday is a B-day). That means, you MUST complete the online test for chapter 19 by the end of the day on Monday. I'm really hoping I'll be back by that point... hobbling along.

Hi Everyone- I regret to tel you I won't be in for the rest of the week as I fell and fractured my foot on an ice spot in my driveway.

I'd like you to continue your presentations in class and if there is extra time on Friday then you can do some independent work on CH 20. Email me with questions and I'll do my best to keep up... :-/

IMPORTANT

SOOOO…. we didn't get through even half of your presentations… some things to keep in mind - stick to essential information - don't read from the slides, we can do that on our own. IMAGES are so important…

Here is what we have remaining and how I'd like to approach it since we need more time than the 15 minutes I originally was aiming for.

Monday 1/26 - Naomi & Cae (Japan)
Wednesday 1/28 - Diana & Kahari (Americas)
Thursday 1/29 - Anthony & Caroline (Africa)

I'd like to post your powerpoint presentations (either as a PDF, or a presentation) on this blog so everyone has the information. I've also posted the pacific presentation from last year which is very well done… so please look through it and take notes. I will NOT provide a quiz or handout for it, but you are required to know the information…

ALSO - you have your take home exam up on quiz star. I was thinking of giving you time next Friday during class to complete this since you've been working hard on exams and we need to finish presentations (you're welcome!) You should READ THE CHAPTER AND BRING IN NOTES TO WORK FROM…

Your quizzes should be 10-15 multiple choice and 2-3 short answer questions of information that you cover in your presentation! :)

Some people are looking to get in touch with their partners and don't have contact info / e-mail addresses - please either figure out a way to connect by commenting with your e-mail address below, OR ask others in the class to get in touch with your partner. You will have to split the presentation time and should coordinate this... :) Hope your first day of exams was good!

Hi everyone,
A few updates / reminders for you ...

1. For your midterm presentation handouts - you should make 11 copies of the SAME handout to give to your classmates and to me. On that handout you can organize it in a number of ways  - you can simply GIVE everyone the pertinent information, create a "worksheet" style handout where students need to fill in certain information you plan to give in your presentation, or a mixture of both.

2. The 15th century Italy test is up on quizstar - take it before the end of the day on Friday as that is when grades close. You are welcome to use your notes to help you, but make sure you know the information. When we return from midterms we will be jumping right into 16th Century Italy. So also make sure you READ the chapter before we start classes again next Monday.

3. Make sure you eat well and get good sleep (unlike me... my crazy baby has been up the last two nights ALL NIGHT!!!) A good night's sleep will completely help you with your exams - best of luck to you all this week and if you need anything - come see me or e-mail me! :)

International Gothic Style

Here is a good way to think about the generalizations of the International Gothic Style that prevailed during the 15th century.

* Très Riches Heures by the Limbourg Brothers is a great example of the style in the North.

HI guys,
I have been asked to help out on a trip last minute for tomorrow so if we have a regular day i will be out. If we have a delay I'll be here.

If I am out - you will continue notes on your own and when I am back on Friday we will start on slide 74 with the Well of Moses.

We will plan on 15th Century Northern test on Tuesday since I don't see you Monday (B day)  - We will then continue Wed, Thurs, Fri with Italian 15th Century and you'll have your take-home test.

You also have HW #8 up on quizstar - you can work on this tomorrow in class if I'm not here, otherwise you must complete it by Thursday 1/15.

Thanks for a lot of hard work and great class discussions... you're all doing great! I'm very proud of the hard work you put in for this class - I know its a lot, and if you need any help, please email me or talk to me!

Two Tests or One?

HI Everyone,
I need to know if you'd like to split Ch 18 & 19 Test into two tests.
If we did - we would take Chapter 18 test on Friday 1/9, and Chapter 19 test on Thursday 1/15, otherwise we would keep it as one exam on Thursday 1/15.

Please vote in comments below by 7:00am on Wednesday 1/7. :)

Still a lot of you haven't taken the test or done the homework...

As of right now... Only 4 of you have done the test and 3 of you have done the homework. I am very disappointed in this as I have tried to have everything available to you ASAP and have worked hard to make sure things go okay. You will have a difficult time with this class as it moves forward if you do not keep up with things.

Regarding the work you must complete by tomorrow- I will not accept anything late- they will become zeros and I will not be checking my email or this blog after I post this. Hopefully you all plan to complete the necessary work tonight.

Time is running short!

Just a reminder to take the test on chapter 17 (14th century art) and complete homework #7 (on 14th century) - both on quizstar BEFORE Monday.

I will NOT accept anything late, and a 0 for a test grade will greatly affect your quarter 2 grade.

You've had a lengthy break, and we will be starting right in on the next chapter on Monday - so be prepared, and finish your test and homework assignment online! :)
